Roses at Covent Garden
On May 14th, at dawn on a chilly morning Danae joined Sarah
Raven of Gardeners World on the stage at Covent Garden to talk
to people about our English-grown roses.
Country roses has been part of Sarah's vigorous campaign to
buy British since she visited us last year to write about
the
gardens for the Telegraph gardening
supplement.
The best of British Flowers May event took place in front of
hundreds of buyers and florists who flocked to the market to
see what is available on our own shores.
No airmiles. No carbon footprint. Yeah!
Danae was accompanied by her husband and co-manging director of Country Roses, Robin Duthy and by her design partner Trisha Edwards who had just returned from picking up an Emmy in America for Cranford Chronicles (in which our roses appear in many shots).
Together Trisha and Danae showed people the extraordinary versatility
of roses, and the roses themselves performed to dazzling effect,
florist Jamie Aston created a fountain of white lupins with the
first blooms of our best performing white rose Susan. The other
florists who chose to use our vivid pink and red roses used them
like lotus blossoms, floating next to tea lights on a flat tray.
The event was broadcast on ITN throughout the day.
